WordPress SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
One thing you need to consider once you have a WordPress blog is how you are going to drive traffic to your blog. In other words, how are people going to find your blog? While there are many ways that you can drive traffic to your blog, such as pay per click ads, social networking sites, etc.; one of the most popular ways to enable people to find your blog is through search engine optimization.
Search engine optimization, or SEO, is just a big fancy word for making your blog easy for people to find when they type certain words and phrases into a search engine – like Google. When someone types in a particular word or phrase, they can be directed to a link for your blog.
There are ways that you can use keywords and keyword phrases that will make it easier for people to find your blog. You can do this by using certain keywords and keyword phrases that have enough people searching with that particular word or phrase but there is not too much competition.
Here is an example of how you can use WordPress SEO to help people find your blog more easily.
First, you need to use the Google Adwords Tool. Go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
Enter a one or two word phrase and then enter the Captcha code, then hit “Enter.” Not only will it show the search results for your term, but it will give the results for others and suggest other keywords as well.
Enter “Tickle Me Elmo” (without quotes) in the search box. It gets an average of 90,500 searches per month. There are other phrases that have good search results. You want to search for a result that has at least 500 searches per month.
“Tickle Me Elmo special edition” has 800 searches per month, and no advertising competition.
Okay, next go to www.google.com and do a search for competing sites. You want to find a keyword phrase with less than 100,000 competing sites.
When you type in “Tickle Me Elmo” (this time with quotes), you get 485,000 competing sites. No good.
BUT, when you try “Tickle Me Elmo special edition,” you only get 1,530 sites. So you have approximately 800 searches for this keyword phrase each month, but you only have 1530 sites that are competing with you for this phrase. That is an excellent ratio to work with. The higher number of searches and the lower the number of competing sites, the better the keyword phrase is.
How can you use this information to help people find your blog? Simple. When you are writing a blog post, use the tools that have just been mentioned to find a keyword phrase that you can use in your blog posts so that you will have the highest chance that people will find your blog post. For example, if you have a blog about hamsters, use the keyword tools and a Google search to find phrases about hamsters that will provide you with the greatest chance of ranking on the first page of a Google search.
By doing this you will achieve better WordPress SEO.
