WordPress RSS Feeds
There are some bloggers who want to limit how the content of their blog is distributed because they feel that the hard work they have put into their blog should not be distributed freely to other sites for display.
An RSS feed is a very easy way for you to have your content distributed all over the Internet. RSS stands for really simple syndication, and it is one of the most important technologies on the Internet today. In simple terms, an RSS feed is a list of your blog content that is designed to be read by software, not by people. It is formatted using XML so that software applications can easily understand it and display your content properly.
In reality, an RSS feed can help you to gain more readers. Your blog could go so much farther because an RSS feed can be set up so that the content of your blog can be distributed with very little effort on your part. Even better, the content that is distributed through an RSS feed will include a link back to your blog. This will allow someone reading the content on another site to follow your link and come to your blog. When they do this, it is possible that they could become a regular reader of your blog.
RSS feeds can be read by different news reader software that any visitor to your site might use. This means that visitors can access your blog quickly and easily. By using an RSS feed, it means that visitors don’t have to bookmark your site and keep checking back every 20 minutes or so and see whether or not you have updated your blog.
WordPress works but two major RSS feed formats. Your WordPress blog will support RSS feed’s right out of the box, so you do not have to worry about special support issues. You can choose to have an RSS which it that will display the last posts of any RSS feed you choose in your sidebar. You can use different settings to display item content, the author, and the date of the post. You can do this so that your readers would be able to find other blogs from your blog.
By the same token, you will want to configure your RSS feeds so that your readers will be able to subscribe to your blog. You can choose the number of posts to display. The default number is 10, and this seems to be a good number to get someone started. You also have the option to choose whether or not they will receive the full text of your post or they will only receive a summary.
I normally choose for someone to receive the full text of a post. This will make it easier for a reader to follow along with your posts and not have to come back to your blog in order to read the rest of an entry. After all, if someone is subscribing to your RSS feed, why require them to visit your blog in order to read the rest of the post? You can always encourage them to visit your blog in order to leave a comment.
