WordPress is one of the most popular blogging platforms available. WordPress has numerous features that will help you to communicate with your readers can handle the traffic is generated by your audience. In addition to this, WordPress has numerous bits of code that are called plugins. These will help your WordPress blog provide even more functions.

There are many plug-ins available for WordPress. You have the option of using both paid and free plug-ins. These blogging tools are the main reason why most people choose WordPress to begin with.

If you want to activate multiple ones at the same time, then you simply need to check all the boxes that you wish to activate. After you do this, then you simply click the activate button at the top of the Inactive Plugins screen

The Askimet plug-in is an essential plug-in that you will need to use with your WordPress blog. This will check all of your comments and see if they look like spam comments are not. You will be able to review any of the spam it catches and see if you would like to allow the comment or not.

The second plug-in (Hello, Dolly) does not have any useful function, but it is used as a symbol of hope and enthusiasm. If you activate this plug-in, you will randomly see one lyric from hello Dolly in the upper right corner of your admin screen.

WordPress will also notify you when there is an update available for your plug-ins. It will have a small bubble in the right order of the plug-in management panel and this will indicate how many plugins have available updates. If you click this number, you will see the information about the updates. You will then have the choice to click the download version and also to click the upgrade automatically link. If you choose to upgrade automatically, the download will occur and the old plug-in will be removed.

Using plug-ins for your WordPress blog is an essential part of making your blog unique and functional. To find additional plug-ins, you can visit the WordPress plug-in directory at http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins.  In time, you will be able to create your own plug-ins and share them with other WordPress users.

WP Magnet – Paid. Encourages your visitors to leave comments on your blog.

WP Pagenavi – Free. Adds more advanced page navigation to a WordPress blog.

WP Videotube – Paid. Will automatically post youtube videos to your blog at a time frame you decide.

Videos – Free. Add videos from several different video sites to your blog posts.

WPD Ads – Paid. Got this one from WordPress Direct. It will put a for sale widget on your side bar.

WordPress Database Backup - You must get WordPress database backup plug-in. This plug-in helps you in on demand backup of your WordPress database thus ensuring that you are prepared for any disasters on your blog.WordPress

Automatic Upgrade - The WordPress automatic upgrade plug-in allows is developed to allow easy & effortless upgrade of your WordPress installation to the latest version. This plug-in automatically backups your database, downloads the latest WordPress version, installs the files and reactivates your previously active plug-ins.

Permalink Migration Plugin - Permalink is the permanent link to the blog post after it moves to the blog archives. Such links are indexed by the search engines and any changes to these links normally result in a “Page not found” error and hence loss of traffic. The Permalink migration plug-in automates the entire migration process. This plug-in is a must have if you are not satisfied with your blog’s Permalink structure and would like to change it.

Google Sitemaps plug-in - Sitemap is considered as an excellent navigation aid for your site visitor. XML sitemap are also known to provide search engines the necessary information for quick indexing of your blog. The Google sitemap plug-in automatically creates a XML sitemap for your blog and pings search engines informing them about the changes on your blog.

GotBanners - This plug-in provides an easy and convenient way of monetizing from your blog. It displays all banners on your blog in a random manner thus avoiding banner blindness for your regular visitors.

So you can see this is quite an extensive list. I have others I use occasionally but I use most of these each time I set up a wordpress blog.
